About

My mom was a psychologist photographer. My dad, the computer engineer, wrote the book on digital typography. They each taught me to see.
So of course, I was drawn to poetry.
My poems needed books, so I taught myself to design them. Ran a small press in the oughts, prioritizing queer and BIPOC writers. Publishing poem books made me happy but poor. I gave up the poems and made ads for big companies. I made some money. It was amazing. I didn't make a damn thing I cared about.
Then I found portraits. They gave me the depth of language and the immediacy of design. A decade later I went pro. For 20 years I followed my father's path. Now I honor my mom. (Dad still helps.)
I've also done these other cool things:
- toured North America as a one-time slam poet; organized and photographed seven National Poetry Slams
- cofounded and creative directed a crowdsourced, potty-mouthed guide to Albuquerque, NM
- directed design for a biodynamic farm, a vegan restaurant, and a feminist porn festival
- moved across the US five times
- gave up my son in an open adoption and stayed tight with him his whole life
