Headshots & Portraits
A headshot is a handshake at a distance: confident and warm. The lighting is consistent and flattering, and your authenticity is the star.
A portrait reveals an insight about your personality. I work in several styles, and I’m always cooking.
Preparation
- If you’re not already, drink lots of water and get good sleep for three nights before our session. This will help your skin to glow!
- If you can, finish eating an hour before we start.
- Please come with hair and makeup ready to shoot. I don’t provide them.
- Headshots: Like you’re going into an interview.
- Portraits: Like you’re going on a date.
- Both: Keep your makeup light—the lights and camera will double it!
- We want to shoot you in your favorite colors, so please bring those—but no busy patterns. If you wear glasses, bring all of them.
- Wear comfy shoes. If you can, you’ll stand for a few hours (on an anti-fatigue mat). Please tell me if you’d prefer to sit.
- To keep us focused, please come alone. Parents and caregivers always welcome.
Arriving
I’m a block from the MacArthur BART. Parking is free on 39th St. and the BART garage (both a block away). Please text when you’re close.
If you can do stairs, please come to my door, which is not on 39th. (Stand in front of The Skylyne at Temescal, turn around and cross the street). Otherwise, I’ll meet you on 39th.
I have a very large, very friendly, existentially depressed dog. His name is Blu and he will adore you.
The session
I’ll fine-tune the light we’ll warm you up. We’ll shoot for a bit, review for a bit, change looks, and pick the images we want to keep. Rinse, repeat. At the end you’ll pick your favorites and get on with your day.
I delete a lot, so never worry about looking bad. The goal is to make diamonds—about 12 of them. You’re busy, and big packages waste your time.
After the shoot
I’ll retouch and deliver your final files in high resolution and social-ready within seven days.
Returning clients get a massive discount, so I hope to see you again!
