You can’t generate an image that makes you stand out

At least not authentically.

Even a left-field idea (i.e. holding a bouquet of petunia-shaped cats) doesn’t help because it’s table stakes now. You have to bring what matters. You have to bring style.

LLMs can’t offer you style unless you already know what to ask for. They’re averaging machines.

And when you let them make your creative choices, you average yourself.

Experienced artists can make inspired stuff, but that’s not how most people use them. (And not how the companies would make money, if they could make money.) AI is presented as a genius. That’s its supposed value. ANYONE can access genius, and pass it off as their own.

But most people don’t know what they want, so they can’t ask for it. They don’t have the background, vocabulary, taste-building.

➡️ The result?* They won’t get genius.

They’ll get average.

To get that standout headshot you’ll need an experienced prompt engineer. With a deep sense of style. Someone you pay to extract what you want from software you argue with to give you what you want.

Instead, let me suggest something radical. Take the time you’d fight with the machine, the money you’d subsequently give the AI whisperer, AND the hours going back and forth with both… and hire an artist with experience, style, and empathy.

You’ll finally get what you asked for.

*Honestly, this joke turns my stomach. Stop letting averaging machines write your copy.
