After Thanksgiving, I caught a ride with my circus-maven cousin and her beau to Seattle, land of water. While the carolers I went to see rehearsed upstairs, I took a few discrete photographs of Lotus, a 92′ luxury boat that transformed the Harbor. With an intercom system, electric lights, and some fancy plumbing, it was a technical marvel for 1909. And the living room was pasted from a sketch of a late Edwardian parlor.
The master bedroom, though. It tugs at you from the end of the hall, like the boat was quietly capsizing in that direction, a quiet destiny. Which probably made it all the worse that you didn’t sleep in that room. Which was, of course, probably the point.
